Mission and Programs

Pima County Parklands Foundation was organized by a group of volunteers who wished to help protect and enhance the parks in Pima County, and to enrich the experiences they provide for Pima County visitors and residents. As the County has grown during the ensuing years, public funding for parks has failed to keep pace. To mitigate the negative effects of inadequate funding, the foundation has been able to finance programs and improvements for many facilities.

Donations to the Foundation can be restricted or unrestricted. Restricted donations are those which are earmarked by donors for specific projects; such as, memorial benches, constructing an enclosed dog run, enhancing hiking trails, or restoring Historic Canoa Ranch. A list of current and recent projects can be found on the Current Projects Page.

Unrestricted donations help underwrite water safety programs and swimming lessons and lunches for underprivileged children. Unrestricted donations are also used to offset volunteer recognition events for the numerous volunteers that assist the NRPR department. The value of these volunteers to NRPR programs and to the community is tremendous. We could not offer many of our programs to the extent that they are offered without their selfless donation of their valuable time in supporting our public programs. During the 2016/17 fiscal year we had 2,193 volunteers donate 23,121 hours to our programs.
